Embora tenham sido alcan\u00e7ados grandes sucessos na educa\u00e7\u00e3o e na forma\u00e7\u00e3o profissional, os obst\u00e1culos institucionais continuam a dificultar a participa\u00e7\u00e3o e o sucesso das mulheres em dom\u00ednios espec\u00edficos, especialmente nas empresas e nas \u00e1reas STEM. O projeto 4equality pretende fornecer ferramentas e pr\u00e1ticas \u00e0s jovens mulheres e aos jovens trabalhadores para que possam lidar com estes desafios.<\/p>\n<p>A ci\u00eancia, a tecnologia, a engenharia e a matem\u00e1tica s\u00e3o os dom\u00ednios que fazem avan\u00e7ar a inova\u00e7\u00e3o e determinam o futuro. No entanto, embora as mulheres representem cerca de metade da for\u00e7a de trabalho global, est\u00e3o sub-representadas nos dom\u00ednios STEM. Esta desigualdade inibe n\u00e3o s\u00f3 a igualdade de g\u00e9nero, mas tamb\u00e9m o pleno potencial do progresso t\u00e9cnico e cient\u00edfico.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136866\"><\/a><strong>Compreender os preconceitos de g\u00e9nero<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc155855837\"><\/a>Os preconceitos de g\u00e9nero est\u00e3o profundamente enraizados nas normas sociais e podem manifestar-se de v\u00e1rias formas, como nas pr\u00e1ticas de contrata\u00e7\u00e3o e nas rela\u00e7\u00f5es no local de trabalho. Os estere\u00f3tipos, a desigualdade de oportunidades e as culturas de exclus\u00e3o no local de trabalho s\u00e3o alguns dos problemas espec\u00edficos que as mulheres enfrentam em sectores dominados pelos homens. Estas quest\u00f5es exigem esfor\u00e7os concertados para capacitar as mulheres e educar as partes interessadas para criar um ambiente inclusivo.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136867\"><\/a><strong>Diferen\u00e7a de g\u00e9nero nas \u00e1reas STEM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Os dados da UNESCO revelam que as mulheres representam \u201capenas 33% dos investigadores em todo o mundo; det\u00eam apenas 12% dos membros das academias cient\u00edficas nacionais e enfrentam desafios na obten\u00e7\u00e3o de bolsas de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com os homens. Para abordar eficazmente esta lacuna significativa entre os g\u00e9neros na ci\u00eancia, que tem impacto na sociedade em geral, \u00e9 crucial aprofundar as raz\u00f5es e os mecanismos que lhe est\u00e3o subjacentes\u201d.\u00a0 O n\u00famero de mulheres em cargos de lideran\u00e7a e de elevada remunera\u00e7\u00e3o, especialmente nas \u00e1reas da engenharia e da tecnologia, continua a diminuir. Os preconceitos sociais, a falta de orienta\u00e7\u00e3o e a parcialidade no local de trabalho mant\u00eam a maioria das mulheres fora destes dom\u00ednios.<\/p>\n<p>Trata-se de uma lacuna criada por barreiras sist\u00e9micas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Os estere\u00f3tipos de g\u00e9nero desencorajam as jovens a seguir uma forma\u00e7\u00e3o em STEM. O I WISH (\u201cuma comunidade liderada por volunt\u00e1rios empenhada em mostrar o poder da Ci\u00eancia, Tecnologia, Engenharia e Matem\u00e1tica a estudantes do ensino secund\u00e1rio do sexo feminino.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>) Survey of Female Students&#8217; Attitudes to STEM<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> afirma que 33% das raparigas adolescentes dizem que os estere\u00f3tipos continuam a desencorajar as raparigas de entrarem nas \u00e1reas STEM.<\/li>\n<li>Acesso: A exposi\u00e7\u00e3o limitada a atividades e mentores relacionados com as STEM reduz o interesse das raparigas por estas disciplinas. O estudo \u201cGender Inequality in STEM Employment and Earnings at Career Entry: Evidence from Millennial Birth Cohorts\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> mostra que\u201d mesmo entre uma amostra que se espera produzir diferen\u00e7as de g\u00e9nero altamente conservadoras, observam-se desigualdades de g\u00e9nero consider\u00e1veis no emprego em STEM. Os autores mostram que, apesar dos ganhos das mulheres na educa\u00e7\u00e3o STEM entre as coortes recentes, as mulheres com diplomas STEM enfrentam perspetivas de emprego em trabalhos STEM que se assemelham mais \u00e0s dos homens sem diplomas STEM do que \u00e0s dos homens com diplomas STEM\u201c<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136868\"><\/a><strong>A import\u00e2ncia da inclus\u00e3o<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc155855839\"><\/a>A diversidade em STEM vai para al\u00e9m de uma quest\u00e3o de justi\u00e7a social; \u00e9 uma necessidade para a criatividade. Estudos demonstraram que as equipas diversificadas superam as equipas homog\u00e9neas em termos de inova\u00e7\u00e3o e capacidade de resolu\u00e7\u00e3o de problemas. A investiga\u00e7\u00e3o da McKinsey &amp; Company \u201cHow inclusion matters<a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a> salienta que as equipas com diversidade de g\u00e9nero t\u00eam 21% mais probabilidades de superar os seus pares em termos de rentabilidade. Noutros estudos, tamb\u00e9m se afirma que \u201cas empresas com uma representa\u00e7\u00e3o de mulheres superior a 30% (e, portanto, no quartil superior) t\u00eam uma probabilidade significativamente maior de superar financeiramente as que t\u00eam 30% ou menos\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn8\" name=\"_ftnref8\">[8]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Isto pode ser atribu\u00eddo ao facto de grupos diversificados desafiarem o pensamento convencional, conduzindo a solu\u00e7\u00f5es mais inovadoras. Girls Who Code<a href=\"#_ftn9\" name=\"_ftnref9\">[9]<\/a> (uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o que valoriza a diversidade, a equidade e a inclus\u00e3o como essenciais para a nossa miss\u00e3o)\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn10\" name=\"_ftnref10\">[10]<\/a> Girls Who Code centra o seu trabalho \u201cn\u00e3o s\u00f3 na diversidade de g\u00e9nero, mas tamb\u00e9m nas jovens mulheres que est\u00e3o historicamente sub-representadas nas \u00e1reas das ci\u00eancias inform\u00e1ticas.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn11\" name=\"_ftnref11\">[11]<\/a>), o Dia Internacional das Mulheres e das Raparigas na Ci\u00eancia das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas<a href=\"#_ftn12\" name=\"_ftnref12\">[12]<\/a> (\u201cEste dia \u00e9 um lembrete de que as mulheres e as raparigas desempenham um papel fundamental nas comunidades cient\u00edficas e tecnol\u00f3gicas e que a sua participa\u00e7\u00e3o deve ser refor\u00e7ada.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn13\" name=\"_ftnref13\">[13]<\/a>, A Comiss\u00e3o Europeia e grupos de base de todo o mundo est\u00e3o a dar \u00eanfase \u00e0 capacita\u00e7\u00e3o das mulheres nestas profiss\u00f5es.<\/p>\n<p>Mulheres como a matem\u00e1tica da NASA Katherine Johnson, Ada Lovelace &#8211; a primeira programadora de computadores do mundo<a href=\"#_ftn14\" name=\"_ftnref14\">[14]<\/a>, \u00a0Marie Curie (que \u201cfoi um gigante nos dom\u00ednios da f\u00edsica e da qu\u00edmica. Foi a primeira pessoa a ganhar dois pr\u00e9mios Nobel. Al\u00e9m disso, \u00e9 uma das duas \u00fanicas pessoas a ganhar o Pr\u00e9mio Nobel em dois dom\u00ednios diferentes e \u00e9 uma pioneira contempor\u00e2nea.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn15\" name=\"_ftnref15\">[15]<\/a>) e muitas outras mulheres de sucesso nos dom\u00ednios da IA, da biotecnologia, da f\u00edsica, da astronomia, etc. inspiram as gera\u00e7\u00f5es futuras a compreender o enorme potencial das mulheres nas \u00e1reas STEM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuando lhe pediam para nomear a sua maior contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a explora\u00e7\u00e3o espacial, Katherine Johnson falava dos c\u00e1lculos que ajudaram a sincronizar o M\u00f3dulo Lunar do Projeto Apollo com o M\u00f3dulo de Comando e Servi\u00e7o em \u00f3rbita lunar. Tamb\u00e9m trabalhou no Space Shuttle e no Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS, mais tarde rebaptizado Landsat) e foi autora ou coautora de 26 relat\u00f3rios de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn16\" name=\"_ftnref16\">[16]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEm 2015, aos 97 anos, Johnson acrescentou outro feito extraordin\u00e1rio \u00e0 sua longa lista: O Presidente Barack Obama atribuiu-lhe a Medalha Presidencial da Liberdade, a mais alta condecora\u00e7\u00e3o civil da Am\u00e9rica.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn17\" name=\"_ftnref17\">[17]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ada Lovelace \u201ctrabalhou no primeiro computador mec\u00e2nico de uso geral de Charles Babbage, o Analytical Engine, em meados do s\u00e9culo XIX. As suas notas sobre o motor incluem o que \u00e9 reconhecido como o primeiro algoritmo destinado a ser processado por uma m\u00e1quina. Sem d\u00favida, o trabalho de Lovelace lan\u00e7ou as bases para as futuras gera\u00e7\u00f5es de programa\u00e7\u00e3o de computadores.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn18\" name=\"_ftnref18\">[18]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136870\"><\/a><strong>A iniciativa 4equality: Objetivos e impacto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O projeto 4equality \u00e9 uma colabora\u00e7\u00e3o entre organiza\u00e7\u00f5es da Pol\u00f3nia, Portugal, Rom\u00e9nia, Bulg\u00e1ria e Chipre. O seu objetivo \u00e9:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Capacitar as mulheres jovens: Fornecer ferramentas para autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o, desenvolvimento profissional e resili\u00eancia para mitigar os efeitos do preconceito de g\u00e9nero.<\/li>\n<li>Apoiar os animadores de juventude: Desenvolver um conjunto de ferramentas para educar e preparar os animadores de juventude para lidar com a discrimina\u00e7\u00e3o e promover a inclus\u00e3o em ambientes profissionais.<\/li>\n<li>Promover a mudan\u00e7a cultural: Incentivar comportamentos inclusivos em termos de g\u00e9nero entre homens e mulheres jovens atrav\u00e9s da educa\u00e7\u00e3o e da sensibiliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>O projeto reconhece que a luta contra os preconceitos de g\u00e9nero n\u00e3o se pode limitar \u00e0 capacita\u00e7\u00e3o dos indiv\u00edduos, mas tem de mudar a cultura do local de trabalho. Utilizando v\u00e1rios recursos, como o e-mentoring e a e-training, procura preparar as jovens mulheres para enfrentar as ind\u00fastrias dominadas pelos homens e, ao mesmo tempo, criar uma cultura de equidade.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136871\"><\/a><strong>Principais resultados da 4equality<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ferramenta de autoavalia\u00e7\u00e3o de compet\u00eancias: Esta ferramenta ajuda a identificar, dentro de si, as vantagens competitivas das mulheres e a ultrapassar alguns dos preconceitos interiorizados.<\/li>\n<li>Kit de ferramentas para jovens trabalhadores: Um recurso que pode ajudar a criar consciencializa\u00e7\u00e3o, apoiar as mulheres jovens e promover a inclus\u00e3o.<\/li>\n<li>E-Training multidisciplinar: Personalizada para ajudar as jovens a adquirirem compet\u00eancias para serem proactivas contra os preconceitos de g\u00e9nero e para os contornarem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc184136872\"><\/a><strong>Caminho a seguir: Apelo \u00e0 a\u00e7\u00e3o <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Embora tenham sido feitos progressos, ainda h\u00e1 muito trabalho a fazer para alcan\u00e7ar a paridade de g\u00e9nero no campo das STEM. A capacita\u00e7\u00e3o das mulheres nestes dom\u00ednios n\u00e3o tem a ver com justi\u00e7a; tem a ver com a explora\u00e7\u00e3o de um potencial inexplorado que pode revolucionar as ind\u00fastrias e resolver desafios globais.<\/p>\n<p>A luta pela igualdade de g\u00e9nero \u00e9 multidimensional e requer a contribui\u00e7\u00e3o de indiv\u00edduos, organiza\u00e7\u00f5es e decisores pol\u00edticos. A 4equality \u00e9 um exemplo perfeito de como os esfor\u00e7os conjuntos podem provocar uma verdadeira mudan\u00e7a: equipar as jovens mulheres para terem sucesso e criar um ambiente que abrace a diversidade.<\/p>\n<p>Todos n\u00f3s precisamos de nos empenhar em desafiar preconceitos, promover a diversidade e criar oportunidades para grupos sub-representados ao apoiarmos a igualdade de g\u00e9nero.
